Lender review
Is Prospa a good business loan lender?
The short answer
A small-business lender, not a home lender. Prospa offers short-term business loans, a larger property-backed loan and a reusable line of credit, all repaid weekly, with a decision often within hours. It suits established owners who want quick funding and can accept short terms and a fee structure that is not cheap.
How we rate them
Our assessment, not a lender claim. Five dimensions, scored out of five, revisited when the policy-checked date changes. Because Prospa lends to businesses, we read the fixed labels for business lending: rate and fees means the cost structure of the facility judged on its design, as Prospa does not publish a price we can compare; approval speed is time to decision and funds; technology covers the app, portal and business account; policy flexibility covers products, security and trading-history rules; service covers dedicated support.

Prospa charges an establishment fee on its loans and a weekly service fee on the line of credit, with fixed rates on the loans. Early payout is allowed but carries a payout charge. Its charges are set per product, so the cost of a short fixed-term loan should be compared on total repayments, not on a headline rate.
Can I get a loan with them?
Probably, if the business has traded for at least six months for a loan, or two years for the line of credit, and the owner is an Australian citizen or permanent resident aged 18 or over. Smaller amounts can be unsecured.
The Small Business Loan asks for six months of trading in most industries, Business Loan Plus for three years with upfront property security, and the Line of Credit for two years. Prospa assesses personal credit alongside the health of the business. Bank statements are the core documents, with financial statements asked for on larger amounts. All products repay weekly and loans run up to five years. This page is about business borrowing only; it does not cover home loans.

Pros and cons
What works
- A decision can arrive within hours and funds within an hour of signing, helped by a bank-statement link that skips paperwork.
- Three products cover a short-term loan, a larger property-backed loan and a reusable line of credit.
- Smaller amounts need no upfront security.
- The line of credit charges interest only on the balance drawn and can be reused.
- An app, online portal and business account with a debit card sit alongside the lending.
- A dedicated lending specialist is assigned to each customer.
What doesn't
- Loans cost more than a bank would: an establishment fee on loans and a weekly service fee on the line of credit.
- Repayments are weekly, which strains cash flow for businesses paid monthly.
- Terms stop at five years.
- The line of credit needs two years of trading, longer than the loan.
- Paying a loan out early carries a charge, so a fixed-term loan is not free to leave.
What are they distinctly good at?
Quick, structured funding for established small businesses. Prospa pairs a fast online process with fixed weekly repayments, so the cost and the end date are known from day one, and it adds a reusable line of credit for day-to-day cash flow.
The design is simple on purpose: a lump sum for a specific purchase, a larger property-backed loan for a bigger plan, or a line of credit for the gaps in between. Prospa's technology reads bank data directly, which is why decisions arrive in hours. The business account and app keep the lending and everyday payments in one place. The cost of that convenience sits in the fees, which is why total repayments matter more than any headline figure.
Who it suits, and who it does not
A good fit if
- Established small businesses wanting funds within days, not weeks.
- Owners who prefer fixed weekly repayments with a known end date.
- Businesses wanting a reusable line of credit for cash flow gaps.
- Borrowers who can offer property for a larger business loan.
Look elsewhere if
- Anyone looking for a home loan or an investment property loan.
- Businesses with under six months of trading.
- Owners paid monthly who struggle with weekly repayments.
- Borrowers who need long terms or the lowest possible cost.
Our verdict
A fast, structured lender for the established small business. Prospa is built for speed and simplicity: apply online, get a decision often within hours, and repay a fixed amount weekly. The price of that is cost and rigidity, with fees that make it dearer than bank finance and weekly repayments that suit steady takings best. Used for a short, well-defined need, it works well; used for long-term funding it does not.
